The original StarCraft and its beloved Brood War expansion are now free

A few weeks ago Blizzard announced the upcoming summertime release of StarCraft: Remastered, giving a facelift to the classic RTS and its beloved Brood War expansion. Alongside that announcement came other interesting news though: The original (not remastered) versions of both StarCraft and Brood War would be made free sometime in April, alongside a new 1.18 patch.

That time has come. Blizzard dropped the 1.18 patch late on Tuesday, adding in a borderless windowed mode, tweaking some back-end code, correcting some long-standing bugs, improving compatibility with Windows 10, and more.

Review: Mophie Juice Pack Air battery case for iPhone 7 w/ Qi wireless charging base

Mophie has long been considered a leader when it comes to iPhone battery cases, and for good reason. Its products in my experience usually have close enough to an Apple product-like finish to justify similarly high price points compared to the competition. Its new iPhone battery case came a few months after the latest device’s release, and I’ve been testing it in recent weeks to see how it compares to the alternatives and previous versions…

Mark Hamill has begun dubbing Donald Trump’s tweets as the Joker

1 Comment and 3 Shares

Donald Trump’s tweets are often the source of some ridicule. Last summer, Futurama voice actor Billy West dubbed a series of the President-elect’s more memorable tweets using the voice of his pompous D.O.O.P. General Zap Brannigan. Now, Mark Hamill is doing the same, using the voice of his iconic Joker from Batman: The Animated Series.

Hamill posted up the soundbite yesterday, dubbing Trump’s tweet from December 31st, in which he wished a Happy New Year to his many enemies.

Hamill seems to have been inspired by writer and actor Matt Oswalt, who mused on Twitter that someone should create an App that transforms Trump’s...

The Super Retro Boy is a great remake of the original Game Boy

1 Comment and 2 Shares

Retro-bit has been re-making classic consoles for many years now, and their latest is the Super Retro Boy. It’s designed to look and feel a lot like the original Nintendo Game Boy — and pretty much nails it. The prototype I played felt satisfyingly chunky and the plastic had a familiar texture to it. Of course, it’s not a straight design copy. For one, that would probably get lawyers involved. For another, a straight copy wouldn’t have the buttons and color screen that make this “super.” If anything, it felt a little too light.

It’s able to play cartridges designed for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance. I played through a level of F-Zero for Game Boy Advance and I learned that I am just as bad at this game today as I was...

US government starts asking foreign travelers to disclose their social media accounts

The US Customs and Border Protection has started demanding that foreign travelers hand over Facebook, Twitter, and other social media account information upon entering the country, according to a report from Politico. The new policy follows a proposal laid out back in June and applies only to those travelers who enter the US temporarily without a visa through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization, or ESTA, process. The goal, the government says, is to “identify potential threats,” a spokesperson tells Politico.

The new policy went into effect on Tuesday, and the request is currently “optional.” It asks foreign travelers to “enter information associated with your online...

Wow, this is super Big Brother-y. Also, complying with this would be extremely difficult. I have many "social media" accounts and I don't even remember my username for most of them.

How to connect the Apple Cinema Display to the new MacBook Pro

Roger Harrop wrote in with a question that is on many, many of your minds, based on the email and Twitter queue:

I have just taken delivery of an impressive shiny new MacBook Pro, but I don’t seem able to get my Apple Cinema Display (A1267) to work with it. I bought the Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapter but that doesn’t work—I suspect because the monitor has a Mini DisplayPort plug not Thunderbolt 2?

This is definitely prima facie confusing, and has perplexed tons of people who have considered buying a new MacBook Pro or purchased one and are trying to squash connectors together. Let me unpack the issue.
